So yea, it has essentially gone downhill, but I don't overall dislike it or anything. Like, okay then.Īnyways, I've long accepted that the first arc is never going to be topped, as the things I liked about it is something the manga has long since mostly moved away from. they still get through to him immediately afterwards anyhow. Which is weird, because the author makes the bold choice to have Emma be late to stop Norman from murdering everyone, but. Like I don't care about the demons (I agree with the criticism that the author hasn't put in the work to make us care), but that whole chapter just felt so off. Emma has always had her whole tropey shounen characteristics to her, but it feels very tone deaf for her to be trying (and apparently succeeding) to sway Norman right after he's essentially committed genocide. That said, while I greatly enjoyed Norman coming back, I feel very mixed in the recent chapter.

Also doesn't help that aside from Lewis and I guess the Queen, the antagonist demon designs are very hard to tell apart, which inherently makes me feel less engaged when they're talking or doing stuff. With demons, it's literally just them trying to avoid being eaten, it's not as interesting. I mean Goldy Pond was cool and all, but I think it's just more interesting when Emma and co.

(I don't like his friends though.) That earlier brief stretch of chapters where Emma has a serious debate on how to convince Norman to spare the demons was good stuff in particular. and The Pilot study done by us earlier and now with the current data over 47. That said, I personally thought Norman's reappearance was the spark that the manga had admittedly been missing for awhile. 1 The Promised Neverland manga: Chapter 1 The Promised Neverland Chapter. Especially when the direction since then moved away from the psychological thriller to a more bland setup of having to survive against the demons. When your very first arc happens to be one of the best shounen arcs, its hard to top it. Not sure if I want to put Welcome to the Ballroom, or Spy x Family. From 5-10 to 4-9, respectively.Īs for #10 on that list. Well, I guess it's time to move Skip Beat, Vinland Saga, Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Fullmetal Alchemist, and AssClass up a spot. I used to call this one of my favourite series, but now? Oh, it's off. Okay, not that bad, but still a very clear drop.

I really just had to get it off my chest, but seriously, how did it all just go into a downward spiral? The last time I saw a series drop this far in quality was probably Usagi Drop. It was especially apparent in last week's chapter with Norman suddenly being revealed to have been conflicted about the whole thing all along, even though we barely see his experience in Lambda. The author keeps using a couple pages of flashback whenever some new development that wasn't established before happens. So despite all this talk from Emma about how "Not all demons are bad, and some are worth saving" doesn't have anything to back it up, because we haven't seen it. Ever since after Goldy Pond, the manga has just been going downhill.Īll this potential worldbuilding by having Emma and Norman go to various cities, and search for the Seven Walls are all just fucking skipped.
